NxtGen's core technology is the non-catalytic Syngas Generator which enables diesel aftertreatment system regeneration at lower temperatures and with less system complexity resulting in lower capital and operating costs. The Syngas Generator produces syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, on demand from diesel fuel and engine exhaust alone. NxtGen has also patented unique system control algorithms that optimize the use of syngas for regenerating diesel particulate filters and lean NOx traps.
NxtGen's Syngas Generator is superior to catalytic and plasma reformers because:
- No catalysts are required that degrade performance
- Insensitive to diesel fuel contaminants including sulfur
- Starts-up quickly and rapidly follows changes in engine load
- Passive system control and low-pressure fuel supply
- Low electrical power consumption
The unit is made of industry standard materials and is designed for volume manufacturing.
The Syngas Generator can be used for:
- Active regeneration of diesel particulate filters
- NOx trap regeneration and desulfurization
- Assisting hydrocarbon-selective catalytic reduction
- Enabling ultra lean engine operating modes
- Fuel supply for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell auxiliary power units
