Responsibilities
  • Develop Matlab-Simulink models for simulating operation of after-treatment system and components over fast-transient conditions.
  • Own component simulation model and continuously improve simulation fidelity and accuracy.
  • Convert Simulink component models into black-box files to be used by a customer or third party without disclosing NxtGen’s intellectual property.
  • Perform trade-off studies for design improvement and performance optimization.
  • Develop model-predictive control algorithms for components in after-treatment system.
  • Implement new control strategy together with Chemical Engineer and Control Engineer.
  • Support advanced technology development by exploring new system solutions, configurations and operating conditions.
  • Support Applications Engineer on technical issues related to process simulation and model-based control.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • BE degree or higher in one or more of the following disciplines: chemical engineering, automotive engineering, process simulation and control, physics, chemistry, physical-chemistry, catalysis, chemical kinetics and related multi-disciplinary areas.
  • Excellent skills in numerical solution of general mathematical problems and programming languages such as FORTRAN, C/C++, Visual Basic
  • Expertise in Matlab-Simulink and process simulation
  • Experience with Windows and Linux OS
  • Basic understanding of thermodynamics and chemical equilibrium, chemical kinetics and kinetic modeling, process control, mass and energy balance, optimization, ordinary differential equations
  • Familiar with Windows and MS Office Applications such as Excel, Word, Access, Project, PowerPoint. 

Additional Beneficial Skills

  • Work experience in chemical, automotive, hydrocarbons processing, combustion, gasification, reforming, partial oxidation, fuel cell, process simulation and control industries
  • Familiar with process simulation software in the chemical and automotive industries, such as Aspen HYSYS, VMGSim, FLUENT, GT Power, AVL Boost/Fire, dSPACE, CHEMKIN, Star-CD, MSC Easy 5, FEMLAB/Comsol Multiphysics
  • Familiar with catalysts, catalytic reactors and monolith reactors
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residence status a priority
